If you have an upgraded card, you can receive your wages or benefits directly onto the card if you want to as well, making it even easier to use. Because the card is backed by MasterCard, you can use it anywhere that you find the MasterCard acceptance mark, and that means in over 30 million locations worldwide.
Having a prepaid credit card allows you to shop in stores, online, by phone, or by mail order with the same ease as having a regular credit card does, the difference is that you don’t have to worry about building up debt with a prepaid card because you load the money on to it first, and so you can’t spend anything you don’t have already. For people who either can’t get or don’t want a regular credit card, this means no longer being barred from shopping where a credit card is necessary, and no need to worry about having to carry large sums of cash around.
It is even possible to earn cash back with the Escape prepaid card. You simply sign up to www.escapecashback.com, and every time you make a purchase using your Escape card, if the store is registered with the scheme, you’ll earn cashback for using it. Once a month, if you have at least £10 stored up as cashback, it’s transferred onto your Escape card giving you extra spending money.
You can use your Escape card like a cash card, and withdraw money from it using any ATM in the UK or abroad which displays the MasterCard acceptance mark. These withdrawals are charged at 99p in the UK and £2 if you are abroad. If you want to send money to someone else who is abroad, you can buy a second Escape card for £4.99 and give it to them. Then, when they are abroad, you can transfer money from your card to theirs with a simple SMS text message. The money is transferred instantly which is ideal in an emergency.
