Kalixa Card

Kalixa is a combined prepay credit card and e-money account. This means that using it gives you all the security of using a regular credit card, but without any worries about over spending or running up large debts. When you use it to shop online instead of a debit card, your funds are ring-fenced and you don’t have any risk of your bank details getting into the hands of anyone fraudulent.

The card is backed by MasterCard which means that it can be used anywhere that the MasterCard acceptance mark is found. It is chip and PIN enabled meaning that you are protected as thoroughly as possible. You can use over 1.2 million ATMs worldwide to withdraw cash as well.

You can load your eAccount in a number of different ways; via electronic bank transfer (internet banking, BACS and Chaps), using your credit or debit card, or from an e-wallet such as Moneybookers or ClickandBuy. You can even have your company load money directly onto your Kalixa eAccount so that there is no messing around with petty cash or waiting for an expenses claim to go through.

Kalixa cards can be used pretty much anywhere that a MasterCard credit card is accepted, and that is both in this country and abroad too. About the only places that you won’t be able to use your Kalixa card is at self service petrol pumps (you can still pay at the cashier desk), and at a store that doesn’t have the facilities to process the transaction electronically, although this sort of manual card payment is now very rare.

The Kalixa card is costs £4.95 for the card and registration fee, then, there are no fees when you make a purchase, no monthly management fees, and it’s free to load money via bank transfer or using cash at any Barclays bank branch. If you make a withdrawal via an ATM machine in the UK it costs you £1.75, and if you do so abroad, it costs £2.25. Loading money on via a debit or credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Maestro) costs 1.75% and loading money via Moneybookers is 3.5% with a minimum charge of £1, and via ClickandBuy is 5%.
